First North American mass-market manufacturer of cellular-connected electric motorcycle
Panasonic Automotive announced it’s expanding work on electric motorcycle and connectivity. Therefore the Harley-Davidson® LiveWire™ electric motorcycle releasing this August.
Firstly, the LiveWire™ electric motorcycle offers riders an exciting, high-performance motorcycling experience. In addition it’s one infused with a new level of technology. Furthermore the collaboration with Panasonic Automotive and its connectivity with V2X platforms. For example and such as the OneConnect connected service platform. Therefore it makes Harley-Davidson the first mass-market manufacturer in North America. All with a cellular-connected electric motorcycle.
Therefore, Panasonic Automotive connects riders to their motorcycle. All through a cellular connection. Then the connection to the telematics control unit (TCU). This is utilizing Panasonic’s OneConnect service with its V2X for AI Driving.
Further and more noteworthy, the OneConnect™ service complements the latest version of the Harley-Davidson™ App. As well as the new service. Together, these systems link LiveWire™ riders with their motorcycle. All through their smartphone providing features. such as:
Motorcycle status
Information is also available through H-D Connect. It includes battery charge level and available range. Also charging status including time to completion. This allows the rider to remotely check the motorcycle status. Yes folks from any location. All where there is sufficient cellular signal is available. Finally and most interestingly, a charge station location finder. One that is integrated into the H-D App.
Electric motorcycles are not new to the population. In fact, there are lots of motor-vehicles in production that run on electricity. The problem with these mopeds is that the drivers can only travel for a few hours before having to charge their engines. For those who own an electric vehicle, a motorcycle that runs on electricity could be a great option.
Conclusion
According to estimates, by 2020 there will be over 1.3 million electric and hybrid cars in the U.S.. So it is only a matter of time before they start rolling off the lines in mass and replace gas-powered cars.
Finally, the Japanese have already taken the lead when it comes to electric motorcycles. I mean today they have more options than ever before. The EPM and KRUKEN are just two of the most popular options in the market right now.
