State of Florida’s Bipartisan Efforts to Improve Water Quality
One of the major bills passed was the Clean Waterways Act. One which aims to reduce harmful algal blooms and improve water quality in the State of Florida’s rivers and streams. The bill also received strong bipartisan support. Moreover it was signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis.
Another notable bill was the Florida Wildlife Corridor Act. One which designates a contiguous network of wildlife corridors throughout the state. The goal is to protect the state’s diverse wildlife and their habitats, while also providing opportunities for recreation and tourism.
Conservation Funding
Lawmakers also approved a significant increase in funding for the state’s land conservation program, Florida Forever. The program will get $200 million annually for the next 10 years. This funding will allow for the acquisition of important conservation lands. It will also support the preservation of natural habitats.
Additionally, the legislature approved a bill that will supply funding for the restoration of the Everglades. It will also prevent harmful discharges from Lake Okeechobee.
