The Electric Revolution: Miles Electric Vehicles Leading the Charge

Hey there, green enthusiasts! Seth Leitman, your friendly neighborhood Green Living Guy, here with some electrifying news that’ll rev up your eco-friendly engines!

Back in April 2008, our friend Ed Ring from Ecoworld.com posed a question that’s been on all of our minds: Who will be first to deliver a full-sized, affordable green electric vehicle to consumers? Well, folks, it looks like we might have our answer, and it’s coming from a company that’s been quietly making waves in the EV world.

Miles Electric Vehicles

Enter Miles Electric Vehicles, based in sunny Santa Monica, California. These guys aren’t just talking the talk; they’re walking the walk – or should I say, driving the drive! Founded in 2004, Miles Electric Vehicles has already made a significant impact in the world of eco-friendly transportation. By 2007, they had delivered over 500 low-speed (25 MPH, range up to 50 miles) full-size vehicles and trucks to fleets, primarily for use on campuses and bases. Talk about putting the pedal to the metal on green transportation!

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Seth, 25 MPH doesn’t sound very fast for Miles Electric Vehicles.” You’re right, it’s not going to win any drag races. But remember, we’re playing the long game here. These vehicles are perfect for enclosed environments like college campuses and military bases, where speed isn’t as important as efficiency and environmental friendliness. It’s a brilliant strategy – start small, prove the concept, and then gear up for the big leagues.

EV World

And speaking of the big leagues, the EV world is buzzing with excitement! Let me give you a quick rundown of some other electrifying developments:

  1. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has given the green light to the THINK City as a zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV). This is huge news, folks! It means THINK can start selling their all-electric city car not just in California, but in 12 other states and the District of Columbia (including my home turf, New York!) that have adopted California’s ZEV standards. The electric revolution is spreading!
  2. Nissan is jumping into the EV game with both feet. They’re not just dipping their toes in; they’re diving headfirst into the electric pool. The Nissan LEAF is coming, and it’s going to make waves. Carlos Ghosn, Nissan’s Chairman and CEO, even took to Facebook to share his excitement about the LEAF launch. When big auto companies start embracing social media to promote EVs, you know the times are a-changin’!
  3. And let’s not forget about Tesla Motors. They’ve just delivered their 100th Roadster in Germany, their largest market outside the US. The lucky owner? A 25-year-old entrepreneur named Lennart Hennig. The best part? This “lightning green” Tesla Roadster Sport 2.5 was raced and signed by Sebastian Vettel and other racing superstars. Now that’s what I call a collector’s item!

But wait, there’s more!

For all you DIY enthusiasts out there, I’ve got some great reads to recommend:

  1. “Build Your Own Electric Vehicle” by yours truly, Seth Leitman, and Bob Brandt
  2. “Build Your Own Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle” – another gem from yours truly
  3. “Build Your Own Electric Motorcycle” by Carl Vogel

These books are perfect for those of you who want to get your hands dirty and really understand the nuts and bolts (pun intended) of electric vehicles.

So, what does all this mean for the future of transportation? It means the electric revolution is here, folks, and it’s picking up speed faster than a Tesla in Ludicrous mode! Companies like Miles Electric Vehicles are paving the way for affordable, full-sized electric cars. They’re proving that electric vehicles aren’t just a pipe dream – they’re a viable, eco-friendly alternative to gas-guzzlers.

As your Green Living Guy, I couldn’t be more excited about this electric future. We’re not just talking about reducing our carbon footprint anymore; we’re actively stomping it out with every electric mile driven. Whether it’s a low-speed vehicle cruising around a college campus, a sleek Tesla Roadster turning heads on the Autobahn, or a homemade electric motorcycle you built in your garage, every EV on the road is a win for our planet.

Conclusion

Remember, folks, the road to a greener future is paved with electric vehicles. So let’s keep our eyes on the horizon, our foot on the (regenerative) brake, and our hearts set on a cleaner, greener world.
