Light Africa: Jewish Heart for Africa’s Impact

Illuminating Africa: Jewish Heart for Africa’s Impact

If we are to light Africa let’s light green!  In early September, I had the chance to attend the launch of a solar installation at Solomon Schechter. This was supported by Robison Energy and also a company called Mercury Solar. Among the organizations present was Jewish Heart for Africa. This is an important organization which is making a remarkable impact. Especially by bringing sustainable Israeli technologies to African villages.

As we approach Hanukkah, I received an inspiring update. For the Jewish Heart for Africa has completed 23 projects since 2008. They are also providing 70,000 solar lights to homes across Africa. For in these villages, every day is truly a festival of lights!

Green Lighting Innovations

  1. LEDs Leading the Way: Within the next decade, LEDs are also expected to dominate half of the commercial lighting market. They’re now the go-to choice for sustainable home lighting.
  2. Google’s Green Initiative: Google has given its employees a remarkable gift—green lighting for their offices.
  3. Supporting Japan: There’s a growing need to send GSI LED products to Japan, proudly made in the USA.

Milestones in Solar Success

  1. Jewish Heart for Africa in Malawi: On February 23, 2011, Jewish Heart for Africa launched its first project in Malawi. For they are also installing solar energy at the Kapdzama Community Based Organization. Founded by Jimmy Kamseza in 2007, this organization supports over 500 orphans and vulnerable children in the Lilongwe District.
  2. Woodstock’s Solar-Powered Menorah: The hamlet of Woodstock, famous for the 1969 festival, now hosts the world’s first solar-powered menorah, thanks to Chabad Rabbi AB Itkin of Chabad of Ulster County.
  3. Singita Lebombo Lodge’s Solar Leap: Singita Lebombo Lodge has advanced its sustainability efforts with a solar power switch at the Lembombo and Sweni Lodges in Singita Kruger National Park. New Southern Energy has crafted a bespoke solar park to harness sun energy efficiently.

Africa to light green

Original Post

Today, one the eve of Hannukah, I received an email from the Jewish Heart For Africa that “to date 23 projects have been completed since 2008 providing 70,000 solar lights to African homes.”

So now in these African villages, every day is a festival of lights.
