🎤 Exclusive: Ted Turner Interview.
Talks Green Media, Climate, and Courage
At the Environmental Media Association (EMA) Awards, the stars came out. But one voice carried more weight than most—Ted Turner.
Media mogul. Environmental champion. Visionary.
I had the rare chance to interview Turner on the Green Carpet of the EMA Awards. What followed was a candid, insightful conversation about climate change, corporate responsibility, and why media must lead the environmental charge.

Turner Doesn’t Pull Punches
What I loved was Ted Turner isn’t one for small talk.
His honesty, rare in big media circles, was both sobering and inspiring. More notably, Turner wasn’t there for optics. He was there because he believes media has the power—and the obligation—to shape the future.
From Cable News to Climate News
More importantly, Turner’s track record speaks for itself. Founder of CNN, TBS, and Cartoon Network, he revolutionized how we consume news and entertainment. But today, his mission is personal—and planetary.
In addition, he’s poured his energy into Turner Renewable Energy, the United Nations Foundation, and his vast conservation efforts across the American West.
Mr. Turner told me, “We need more environmental stories in the mainstream. The public deserves to know the truth. Not just about the science—but about the solutions.”
Green Screens, Real Change
At the EMA Awards, Turner praised the rise in environmental themes across film and television. From documentaries on deforestation to TV shows showing electric cars and solar homes, he sees a culture shift underway.
Still, he stressed that we’re not moving fast enough.
That philosophy is core to his approach. By using media as a megaphone for change. And he wants others in the industry to follow suit.
The Role of Business in the Climate Fight
When asked what role corporations should play, Turner didn’t mince words.
“Businesses can do more than governments. They move faster. They innovate. And they’re starting to wake up to the fact that being green is good business.”
Mr. Turner also has pointed to companies investing in wind, solar, and green building as leading examples in the past. But he also challenged big polluters to pivot—or risk irrelevance.
Courage and Urgency
Above all, Turner emphasized the need for courage.
“It takes guts to go against the status quo. To challenge oil companies. To speak up when others stay quiet.”
Furthermore, Ted believes the climate crisis demands bold leadership—from celebrities, from CEOs, from everyone.
“If we don’t act, future generations will suffer. And they’ll know we had the chance to do something—and didn’t.”
Final Thoughts: A Legacy in Motion
Ted Turner’s presence at the EMA Awards was more than symbolic. It was a reminder of how much one person can do—especially when they have a vision and the drive to act on it.
Most notably, he helped change the media landscape. Now, he’s trying to help save the planet.
As our interview wrapped, I asked him what message he wanted young people to hear.
His answer was simple:
“Don’t wait. Get involved. Speak up. This planet needs you now.”
