Green Sundance: A Sustainable Experience at the Film Festival

A really nice friend from Planet Green named Sara Novak interviewed me a while ago when A Lot To Say, inc and I went over to the Sundance Film Fesitval. I really have to thank A Lot To Say for that experience. Besides hanging out with the Planet Green folk (as you’ll see), I also got to meet and interview some amazing people out there. I have a film I am going to be releasing soon of the whole experience. Stay tuned and in the meantime check out the excerpt from the story at Planet Green.
More and more festivals across the country have taken steps toward putting on a more responsible show. And some festivals have made huge strides like Bonnaroo and Wanderlust, which have greatly reduced waste through recycling and composting as well as using solar power and biodiesel to run generators. And this year the trendiest celeb fest of them all, the Sundance Film Festival, took baby steps toward green.

Data Center Energy Savings Through Modernization

Companies To Reduce Data Center Costs by $80 million Over 10 Years.
Consolidated Edison Company of New York (Con Edison) and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) today in Westchester announced a partnership to help data centers in New York City and Westchester County reduce their energy use, save on operating costs, and cut greenhouse gas emissions through more efficient use of electricity.
Under the Data Center Efficiency Program, Con Edison and NYSERDA will work together to provide data centers in the Con Edison service territory with targeted technical assistance as well as $10 million in financial incentives to support energy efficiency initiatives. This funding is available with the goal of reducing energy costs by $8 million and achieving 55,000 MWhs in annual energy savings.

NYSERDA Western NY Energy Savings for Businesses

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced today that 212 Western New York businesses are reducing energy costs by a total of $2.4 million annually as a result of energy efficiency upgrades and sustainable building projects supported by NYSERDA during 2010.
The energy savings – 15.5 million kilowatt hours — is equivalent to the amount of electricity consumed by 2,246 single-family homes annually.
“NYSERDA commends these leaders in the Western New York business community for their commitment to more environmentally sustainable business practices,” said Francis J. Murray Jr., President and CEO of NYSERDA. “We encourage other companies to apply for the incentives available in 2011.”

Albany School District Achieves Major Energy Savings

NYSERDA and Recovery Act Funding Helps School District Reduce Energy Costs by $460,000 Annually
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) presented the City School District of Albany Board of Education with its High Performance Building Plaque last week in recognition of the energy-saving investments it made at Hackett Middle School that will reduce energy costs by $260,000 annually.
The Hackett Middle School renovation project, started in 2005 and completed in July 2008, was supported by nearly $273,000 in NYSERDA incentives that helped fund the purchase and installation of a new energy-efficient lighting and lighting control system, high efficiency chiller system, digitally controlled building management system and various other energy efficiency measures.
