Triple Bottom Line Forum Highlights Key Success Stories

PORTLAND, Ore., May 25, 2011—Earth Advantage Institute opened up speaker nominations for its November 3rd Green Day Forum, Portland’s premier green building conference, to be held in the city’s Pearl District. The 2011 conference theme is “Meet the Champions: Achieving the Triple Bottom Line in Green Building.”
“Champions of the Triple Bottom Line” refers to those organizations in green building that measure success not only through profits but also through benefits for people and for the environment. Earth Advantage Institute seeks nominations of individuals or organizations whose sustainable building efforts, business models, products, technologies, services or policies have enabled them to provide their communities with social and environmental benefits while generating economic benefits.
One example of such a champion is Green Day Forum keynote speaker Nancy Murray, founder and CEO of Builders of Hope, a nonprofit providing affordable housing and job training through an “extreme green rehabilitation” model that moves and retrofits homes scheduled for demolition.

NYSERDA Awards Contracts to 14 Constituency-Based Groups to Spur Energy Efficiency Improvements – New York House

ALBANY–The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has selected 14 Constituency-Based Organizations (CBO) and coalitions of constituency-based organizations across the state to conduct grassroots outreach to encourage energy efficiency improvements and participation in training opportunities for green jobs.
The awards announced today represent $5.15 million of the $6 million allocated for constituency-based outreach through Green Jobs-Green New York (GJGNY), a program created by the New York State Legislature to significantly increase the number of energy efficiency improvements in the state while creating green jobs.
To address gaps in regional coverage from this first set of awards, NYSERDA plans to issue a second competitive solicitation for the remaining funds in June.

LEDs offer a number of promising environmental benefits, and they are often viewed as the future of green lighting. According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), LEDs eventually could reduce by 50 percent the amount of energy we use for lighting globally and reduce by 10 percent the total amount of electricity we use.
LEDs could reduce projected 2025 global carbon emissions by 300 megatons per year while creating new jobs.
To break this down, on average, generating a single kilowatthour of electricity produces 1.34 pounds (610 grams) of CO2 emissions. If the average light bulb is on for 10 hours a day, a single 40-watt incandescent bulb will generate 196 pounds (89 kilograms) of CO2 a year. However, a 13-watt LED equivalentwill only produce

Jaguar confirmed that it plans to launch the remarkable C-X75 concept car as an exclusive hybrid supercar.
Jaguar C-X75 will become the British marque’s most advanced model to date. The company expects the vehicle to offer performance on par with the fastest production cars on the market, while adopting cutting-edge technology that offers remarkable fuel economy. Jaguar expects this hybrid supercar to deliver incredibly low CO2 emissions while being able to achieve in excess of 200mph.
