EV Partnership: Renault-Nissan and E-laad.nl Unite

The Renault-Nissan Alliance have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the E-laad.nl Foundation, a consortium of Dutch grid operators, to jointly promote the spread of zero-emission vehicles in the Netherlands.
As part of the agreement, the Alliance will provide a full range of 100% electric vehicles to private customers starting this June with the Nissan LEAF, this year’s European Car of the Year, followed shortly by a full zero-emission* range from Renault. At the same time, E-laad.nl Foundation will build a nationwide, affordable public charging infrastructure compatible with such cars. Together, the efforts by the Alliance and the e-laad.nl Foundation are expected to support the Dutch government’s aim to have electric vehicles account for 10% of the Dutch car market by 2020.
E-laad.nl Foundation has already begun rolling out the 10,000 charging stations it plans to install across the country. The first 2,000 points will be placed in towns with more than 10,000 inhabitants, upon request from the local city councils.

An ideal image would show an early electric vehicle charging station in a European setting, perhaps featuring a 2011-era EV like a Nissan Leaf or Renault Zoe connected to a charging point. The image would include the Green eMotion Initiative branding and convey the forward-thinking nature of this pan-European project that aimed to standardize charging infrastructure across the continent.

Advanced Energy releases a new web-based tool for charging stations

Advanced Energy, a nonprofit committed to helping communities understand, plan-for and implement electric transportation initiatives, is pleased to announce the availability of an interactive, web-based tool that compares charging stations from various vendors in the United States. Charging Station Technology Review for Plug-in Electric Vehicles is a result of an ongoing comprehensive review of technical information submitted by commercial vendors, service providers and other interested parties on electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), most commonly referred to as charging stations.
The online tool includes an overview of:
Charging equipment and related systems/services
Use of “smart charging” concepts
Projected maintenance/repair schedules and costs; and
Anticipated charging station billing models/systems.

Mayor Nutter Opens City’s First Solar PV Installation

Mayor Michael A. Nutter, local and federal officials celebrated the completion of a new solar PV installation, the first owned by the City of Philadelphia, at the Philadelphia Water Department’s (PWD) Southeast Water Pollution Control Plant. The PWD installed a 250kW solar photovoltaic system, which was completed as a result of Philadelphia’s partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Solar America Cities program. The solar array, which produces enough energy to power 28 homes each year, also contributes to a goal of the Greenworks Philadelphia sustainability plan, to purchase or generate 20 percent of electricity used in the city from alternative energy sources by 2015.
“Producing solar energy at this City-owned water treatment plant reduces our greenhouse gas emissions, creates new jobs, and lowers our electricity bill. This is a smart investment that will help the city reach the goals set in Greenworks Philadelphia,” said Mayor Nutter. “I would like to thank the U.S. Department of Energy for helping Philadelphia to invest in renewable energies and to build upon our momentum to become the greenest city in America.”
