Solar3D Optimizing 3Dimensional Solar Cell Design for Low cost Mass Production

Solar3D, Inc. developed a 3-dimensional solar cell technology to maximize the conversion of sunlight into electricity, announced today that it is consulting with outside manufacturing experts to optimize the prototype design for low-cost mass production.
Jim Nelson, CEO of Solar3D, said, “Creating a solar cell that is significantly more efficient than current technology is only half of our mission. It is essential that we make it as inexpensively as possible. The use of experts from the outside has helped us make slight modifications to the design that will save significant operating and capital expense.”

EV Electrical Vehicles and the Fast-Charging Future

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today the acquisition of Epyon B.V., an early leader in electric vehicle charging infrastructure solutions focusing on direct current (DC) fast-charging stations and network charger software. The acquisition is in line with ABB’s strategy to expand its global offering of electric vehicle infrastructure solutions.
“This acquisition gives ABB access to competitive products, key network management software, and a robust maintenance service business model, which ideally complements our own offering,” said Ulrich Spiesshofer, head of ABB’s Discrete Automation and Motion division.
“ABB’s brand recognition and strong global presence will accelerate the growth of a combined Epyon – ABB offering, and provide access to key customers and partners,’’ said Hans Streng, Epyon’s CEO who led the company over the last year and who will stay as an experienced industrial leader of the combined business. “Epyon’s existing business is complemented by ABB’s strong power electronics platform, global manufacturing footprint as well as its supply, marketing and service network.”

Vattenfall’s new wind farm supplies 50,000 homes with electricity

Stor-Rotliden, a wind farm north of Fredrika in Åsele municipality, Sweden, has now been completed. Its forty wind power turbines are expected to generate 240 GWh annually, which corresponds to supplying 50,000 homes with electricity. Wind power is a prioritized sector for Vattenfall. The company plans to invest SEK 26 billion in new wind farms up to 2015.
The construction of Stor-Rotliden provided some hundred jobs for about a year. Now as the wind farm has been completed, nine permanent employees from the local area will assure its operation and maintenance. Stor-Rotliden cost SEK 1.5 billion to build.
“With Stor-Rotliden, which is Vattenfall’s largest onshore wind farm, we continue to increase our share of renewable electricity generation. Wind power is a priority for Vattenfall, and the company will invest SEK 26 billion in this sector up to 2015”, said Øystein Løseth, President and CEO of Vattenfall, on the occasion of the inauguration of Stor-Rotliden.
