The 2nd Annual Green City Challenge Race and Family Expo and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) are pleased to announce that, due to overwhelming success last year, the event is moving to Union Square Park. Green City Challenge founder, Les Judd felt that 2011 was the perfect year to reach a broader audience by moving the event. States Judd, “We need to educate New Yorkers about ways to live green, work green, and eat green within the city. It’s definitely possible. People just need to be exposed to all of the resources around them. Being GREEN is easier than people think.”

“With the support of agencies such as NYSERDA, we are able to increase our outreach to many more New Yorkers. This year we hope to engage with the thousands of people who will enjoy the beauty of Union Square Park on Sunday, October 23rd, 2011,” continues Judd.

This FREE one-day event will include product vendors, inspiring panel discussions, musical performances, organic and healthy food vendors, children’s activities, and a recycling center. The Green City Challenge members ask that the community bring used sneakers, eyeglasses, cell phones and clothing to be recycled.

One highlight of the day is the “Green City Challenge Race.” Ten teams of two will compete for the highest score as they race around Lower Manhattan Neighborhoods on bicycles attempting to complete challenges at multiple secret GREEN businesses. The competitors will receive a puzzle piece with a clue directing them to the next challenge. The winning teams will receive gift bags filled with incredible green and sustainable prizes.
