As a complete solar energy solutions provider, Conergy expanded its North American offering with a full portfolio of company-manufactured solar mounting systems.
The lineup covered nearly every major type of PV installation. For pitched roofs, Conergy offered SunTop IV along with a North American preview of SunTop Trapez. For flat roofs, the company provided SunTop tilt systems as well as a new aerodynamic option designed for roofs with strict weight limits.
Conergy also expanded its ground-mount solutions. Solar Giant used a ballasted design, while SolarLinea relied on driven piles for larger free-field solar projects.
The company brought significant experience to the market. At the time, Conergy had spent 18 years developing mounting systems and had sold roughly 1 GW of mounting capacity worldwide. In addition, its engineers drew on experience from project development, wholesale distribution and installation.
As a result, Conergy designed the portfolio around real-world solar installation challenges. The goal was simple: give installers and developers mounting options that could work across rooftops, commercial properties and utility-scale solar sites.

An Aerodynamic Mounting Solution
Conergy Targets Weight-Limited Commercial Rooftops
Conergy also planned to unveil a new lightweight commercial roof mounting system at Solar Power International.
The system focused on one of the biggest challenges facing rooftop solar projects: weight.
Many commercial buildings have large, open roof areas that appear ideal for solar. However, structural limits can prevent owners from installing a traditional PV array. In many cases, the problem is not the solar panels themselves. Instead, the mounting system and the ballast required to secure it can add too much weight.
Conergy designed its new system to address that issue directly.
Rather than relying heavily on concrete blocks or other ballast, the mounting system used aerodynamic forces to help keep the array secure. By reducing the amount of ballast needed, Conergy could lower the overall weight placed on the roof.
That opened the door for solar installations on commercial buildings that previously could not support a conventional ballasted system.
Aerodynamics Reduce the Need for Ballast
Traditional flat-roof solar systems often depend on significant ballast to resist wind uplift. However, more ballast means more weight.
Conergy took a different approach.
The company engineered the system to manage airflow around and across the solar array. That aerodynamic design helped reduce wind pressure and uplift forces. As a result, installers could use less ballast while still maintaining system stability.
For building owners, that could make a major difference.
A lighter mounting system can reduce structural concerns. It can also simplify engineering requirements and potentially expand the number of rooftops suitable for solar.
More Commercial Roofs Could Become Solar-Ready
That matters because commercial rooftops represent a major opportunity for distributed solar generation.
Warehouses, factories, offices and retail centers often have enormous amounts of unused roof space. Yet many older buildings were never designed to carry the additional weight of a large solar array.
By reducing mounting-system weight, Conergy aimed to make more of those rooftops viable.
Therefore, the innovation was about more than hardware. It was about expanding the practical solar market.
A building that once failed a structural review because of ballast requirements could potentially become a candidate for PV with a lighter mounting solution.
Faster and More Flexible Solar Deployment
Lower ballast requirements can also simplify installation.
Installers may need fewer heavy materials on the roof. That can reduce handling, transportation and setup time. In addition, a lighter system may place less stress on roofing membranes and supporting structures.
For developers, those advantages can improve project economics.
Commercial solar projects often depend on tight budgets, structural approvals and installation schedules. Any system that reduces engineering complexity while maintaining safety can make a project more attractive.
Conergy’s approach reflected a broader trend in the solar industry. As PV modules became more efficient and system costs fell, mounting technology also had to evolve.
The goal was no longer just to hold panels in place.
Instead, mounting systems needed to become lighter, faster to install and adaptable to a wider range of buildings.
A Smarter Approach to Commercial Solar
Conergy’s lightweight system showed how engineering could remove one more barrier to rooftop solar adoption.
By using aerodynamic design to reduce ballast, the company aimed to bring solar energy to buildings that previously could not support a conventional array.
That meant more usable rooftops.
It also meant more opportunities for businesses to generate clean electricity directly where they consume it.
For the commercial solar market, that kind of innovation could turn previously unusable roof space into productive renewable-energy infrastructure.
