Hollywood Goes Green on Earth Day
Earth Day 2014 wasn’t just another April 22nd. It became a moment in time where Hollywood and sustainability finally collided live and in real-time—and I was lucky enough to be right there in the conversation.
In this special episode of The Green Living Guy Podcast, I sat down with Ed Begley Jr., the original green celebrity, and his incredible partner, Rachelle Carson-Begley, to talk about their ambitious event, Hollywood Goes Green.

A Green Marathon at the Heart of Tinseltown
Live from the BiteSizeTV studios at Hollywood and Vine, the Earth Day event was the first all-digital marathon broadcast fully dedicated to environmental awareness.
Ed and Rachelle hosted the entire 12-hour livestream. They welcomed celebrities, scientists, green entrepreneurs, authors, fashion designers, and activists. Everyone who participated brought one thing in common: a mission to protect the planet.
The show, titled Hollywood Goes Green, was a continuous, upbeat stream of eco-conscious storytelling, solutions, and celebration. And it wasn’t just talk. It was action—on air and online.
What We Talked About in the Interview
Ed shared what inspired him to be a part of this event. From his early days riding an electric bike before it was trendy to building one of the greenest homes in America, Ed has always walked the walk.
During our conversation, we dove deep into:
- How Hollywood Goes Green came together behind the scenes
- Why BiteSizeTV stepped up as the first online network to dedicate a full day to sustainability
- What celebrity involvement really means for the green movement
- How to turn awareness into action—and keep that momentum going after Earth Day
- Tips from Ed and Rachelle on how anyone can start living more sustainably
Real Talk, Real Impact
This wasn’t a scripted Hollywood moment. This was honest. It was raw. And it was powerful.
Ed talked about the challenges of getting mainstream media to focus on the environment. Yet he remains hopeful—and this event was proof that things are changing.
Rachelle added a powerful perspective on how green living doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be intentional.
They both emphasized that no matter how small your actions feel, they matter. Whether it’s recycling, cutting back on single-use plastics, driving an EV, or supporting green companies—it all adds up.
Hollywood Meets the Climate Crisis
What made Hollywood Goes Green unique was its blend of celebrity influence and expert knowledge. Guests included people on the front lines of clean tech, sustainable fashion, and environmental justice.
They showcased:
- Ocean activists working to end plastic pollution
- Innovators using AI and blockchain for climate solutions
- Green builders and architects redefining what “home” means
- Farmers and chefs reshaping how we grow and consume food
And yes—celebrities who are putting their platforms to work for the planet.
Earth Day Was Just the Beginning
As Ed pointed out in our interview, Earth Day should be a launchpad, not a finish line. Events like these ignite conversations—but the real change happens the day after.
He challenged listeners to keep asking questions, keep learning, and most importantly—keep doing.
If you’re not sure where to begin, this podcast episode offers a solid starting point. Whether it’s switching to LED bulbs, composting at home, supporting climate legislation, or simply being more mindful—it’s all progress.
The Green Living Guy Podcast Is Growing
Episodes like this one with Ed and Rachelle are why I started The Green Living Guy Podcast in the first place. It’s about putting real voices in the room. It’s about using storytelling to push the movement forward.
And I’m proud to say this podcast has now reached over 250,000 downloads, with 26 full episodes and a new wave of environmental leaders coming your way.
