The Solarize Hudson Valley program I am the hotline coordinator for is really gaining media traction in Ulster County. The Daily Freeman which is a publication for the area wrote up a story on their efforts.
Solarize Hudson Valley Program Powers Up in Ulster County
The Solarize Hudson Valley campaign is making serious headway in Ulster County. The Daily Freeman recently spotlighted the effort’s rapid uptake and strong public response.
Uptick in Community Solar Demand
The campaign, driven by local leaders from Woodstock and Rosendale, serves as one of three Solarize Hudson Valley rollouts launched that summer. Originally, the Woodstock–Rosendale initiative was scheduled to end on November 16. However, surging interest pushed organizers to extend it through November 30.
Program manager John Wackman explained the results vividly: “We are incredibly excited to see that Solarize Woodstock-Rosendale has generated more than 225 free solar assessments along with over 70 proposals for home and small business owners. Since July, Woodstock, Rosendale and nearby areas—including New Paltz and Tillson—have hosted numerous workshops and open house events.”
This enthusiastic response underscores how effective community-based solar campaigns can be in overcoming barriers to entry and spreading clean energy adoption.
Here’s the story.

The “Solarize Campaign” hosted by community leaders in the towns of Woodstock and Rosendale is encouraging new solar energy installations. The program is one of three campaigns launched by Solarize Hudson Valley in July.
Initially the Woodstock-Rosendale program was set to end Nov. 16. However, its increased demand encouraged the Solarize team to extend the program until Nov. 30. That’s because the work I’ve done has brought in not just individual homes but also the private sector. One company in particular talked to me and did his house and stores!
“We are incredibly excited to see that Solarize Woodstock-Rosendale has generated. I mean more than 225 free solar assessments. All with more than 70 proposals. All provided to home and small business owners,” said John Wackman, program manager for the community-sponsored, state-supported nonprofit program. “Since July, Woodstock, Rosendale and surrounding towns including New Paltz and (the hamlet of) Tillson, hosted numerous educational workshops and solar open houses.
