YouTube Star Joey Graceffa teamed up with the National Audubon Society to create a video, launching today. One that illustrates to viewers of all ages what they can do if they find baby birds that have fallen out of their nests.
It is very funny, and educational, to boot!
As People Magazine wrote:
Coming across a baby bird that’s fallen from its nest can be a daunting, but YouTube star Joey Graceffa is making sure his fans know exactly what they should do. Especially if they find themselves dealing with a fallen fledgling.
As you watch, you’ll see that Joey Graceffa and his boyfriend Daniel Preda. For they tour the Audubon Center at Debs Park L.A. and learn how to identify and care for young birds who’ve fallen out of their nests.
Most birds nest during the spring and summer. Thereby making this a critical time for bird safety. They dispel the rumor that you shouldn’t touch young birds in need. So please learn how to properly assess young nestlings and hatchlings to get them home safely.
As the US Fish and Wildlife Service says:
Most states require permits or licenses, training and approved facilities to rehabilitate wildlife and some species. That’s including most birds. For they require federal permits as well. I mean for the safety of the animal, yourself and your family. So always call a professional.
Survey the scene
Stop and notice your surroundings. Look for a cause of injury. Do you see any fallen nests on the ground? Was there a recent wind or strong storm that moved through? Most of the time, the best thing to do is to leave the animal alone, but you’ll know a wild animal needs help if it has a visible broken limb, is bleeding, shivering or has a deceased parent nearby.
