Town of Hempstead, N.Y. Converts More Than 50,000 Street Lights to Better LED Technology
So The Town of Hempstead, N.Y., the largest township in the country, is making the switch to LED technology with converting more than 50,000 high-pressure sodium fixtures to LED street lights from Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE). The installation is already underway with future phases planned to bring LED lighting to the town’s municipal buildings, parks and marinas. The street light project delivers an anticipated two and a half-year payback. More noteworthy, all with nearly $3 million in annual energy savings and $57 million in total lifetime savings.
So the Town Hempstead is in Nassau County.
Therefore it’s just east of New York City. As well as nearly 800,000. Finally making it larger than some states and U.S. cities. They are always looking to improve visibility. That’s while preserving the historic look of the residential streetscape. As well as the town selected the Cree® DPT Series for Decorative Post-Top luminaires. Furthermore, the DPT™ Decorative Post-Top luminaire delivers a 3000K color temperature for warm and inviting illumination. Plus it’s delivering up to 74 percent savings over the earlier. Plus outdated technology. The Cree XSP Series selected for crisp, clean illumination on major roadways. In addition, Cree OSQ™ flood luminaires with NanoOptic® Precision Delivery Grid™ optics. They were installed in parking lots. All where precise optical control for improved safety and comfort.
Finally Cree selected for the project after a test installation on the Sunrise Highway.
It so quickly demonstrated impressive annual energy savings of $75,000. For locals, that’s about 63 percent over the previous technology for that roadway alone. Recognizing the overall savings potential, Hempstead officials worked with Best LED Group and Cree to design, assemble and deploy a full package that would give a better quality light experience throughout the town. Today, Hempstead has much reduced spending for its street and parking lot lighting through reduced utility bills and elimination of almost all maintenance costs – all while providing better light experiences over the lighting’s lifetime.
In conclusion, the town is looking ahead to more LED lighting installations in the future. Finally noting their local utility offers impressive indoor rebates. As well as savings long-term on labor costs supplements for LED fixtures.
