Charge EV Westchester County: A Cleaner Future

Westchester County Supercharges EV Future with $5 Million Clean Transportation Boost

Westchester Launches EV Charging Program in 24 Communities

On July 16, 2025, government said: Charge EV Westchester County! For Westchester County launched a transformative electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure initiative. With $5 million on the table, the county will reimburse up to 50% of installation costs for municipalities. The goal: turbocharge EV charger deployment across 24 cities, towns, and villages.

Why It Matters

This isn’t just about convenienceβ€”it’s about climate. The program will bring 79 new charging sites and over 750 ports online. That means less tailpipe pollution, fewer greenhouse gases, and cleaner air for every resident.

A Vision from the Top

β€œThis is an investment in both our environment and our residents,” said County Executive Ken Jenkins. β€œBy installing more EV chargers in neighborhoods across Westchester, we’re helping people transition to clean transportation while collaborating with our local partners to reduce pollution, and promote healthier communities.”

⚑Power in Action

Imagine a busy EV hub with 16 vehicles charging at once. Fast chargers. Level 2s. Solar canopies. A central transformer buzzing quietly under LED streetlights. That vision is becoming reality in Westchesterβ€”town by town.

Environmental Goals Front and Center

Peter McCartt, Director of Energy Conservation and Sustainability, added:

β€œThis program is a critical step toward meeting our climate goals at the local and regional levels. By leveraging county support, we’re bringing the cost of installation down to zero or near zero for many municipalities.”

Municipal Highlights: Urban and Suburban Gains

  • Yonkers: 6 sites / 60 ports
  • White Plains: 7 sites / 75 ports
  • Scarsdale: 3 sites / 66 ports
  • Villages & Towns: Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Rye Brook, and Sleepy Hollow are among the many receiving installations

From major urban centers to historic river towns, this rollout ensures broad access and equity.

How It Works

The Charge EV Westchester County program allows municipalities to apply for funding and must host chargers on public property or rights-of-way. Each city or town determines whether to offer free charging or set user fees. Once approved and constructed, installations go liveβ€”often within weeks.

Aligning with New York’s Clean Energy Strategy

This county-wide investment complements ongoing EV initiatives from:

  • NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority)
  • NYPA (New York Power Authority)
  • Charge Ready NY and Evolve NY incentive programs

Together, these efforts are removing barriers to EV adoption statewide. Westchester’s model demonstrates how local governments can lead, support climate goals, and stimulate green economic development.

A Cleaner, More Connected Future: Charge EV Westchester County

Cleaner air. Quieter streets. Healthier communities. As the number of EVs on the road rises, Westchester County EV charger infrastructure will be ready. This isn’t just progressβ€”it’s a promise.
