Eco Sex: Making Your Intimate Life Sustainable

Eco-Sex: Talking Sustainable Intimacy with Stefanie Iris Weiss

When most people think about sustainability, they picture solar panels, electric cars, or reusable bags. But what about your love life? That’s exactly what author Stefanie Iris Weiss wants you to consider in her book Eco-Sex: Go Green Between the Sheets and Make Your Love Life Sustainable.

I sat down with Stefanie for The Green Living Guy Podcast to dive into her vision of sustainability where it matters most: in our most intimate moments.

A Conversation Beyond the Usual Green Talk

We met up in a funky spot—a place with a bar on one side and a pizza-coffee-house vibe on the other. It felt perfect for a conversation that’s both relaxed and boundary-pushing.

Right from the start, I told listeners to sit back, relax, and get ready—because yes, we were going to talk about sex. Stefanie greeted me with a big smile, clearly ready to demystify what eco-sex is all about.

Why Eco Sex?

When I asked what inspired her to write Eco-Sex, Stefanie explained she’s been living green for years—vegetarian for two decades and fully committed to sustainability as a lifestyle.

An intimate, sustainable bedroom featuring organic linens, non-toxic materials, and eco-conscious personal care products.

She told me it was a natural extension of her values: if you care about the planet, why wouldn’t you think about the impact of your most personal choices? She realized many people don’t consider what goes into the products they use on their bodies or in their bedrooms.

Making Love Sustainable

During our chat, Stefanie broke down what “eco-sex” really means:

  1. Choosing body-safe, non-toxic personal products
  2. Supporting fair-trade and organic bedding
  3. Avoiding harmful chemicals in lubricants and toys
  4. Thinking about the lifecycle of what you buy

She sees eco-sex as a fun, empowering way to bring sustainability into every aspect of life—without being preachy or guilt-driven.

More Than Just Buying Green

But it’s not just about shopping better. Stefanie talked about slowing down, being mindful, and having real conversations with partners. Sustainability, she argued, is about connection, trust, and respect—not only for the planet but for each other.

It’s an approach that invites us to rethink our habits and see intimacy as another chance to live our values.

Why It Matters

We both agreed the personal care industry has a history of using harsh chemicals, wasteful packaging, and ethically questionable sourcing. By making more conscious choices, consumers send a message to companies while protecting their own health.

Plus, as Stefanie pointed out, these small shifts can ripple outward. When people see sustainability as something that enhances pleasure and well-being, they’re more likely to adopt it in other parts of life.
