Nature Conservancy Announces “Top Ten California Natural Treasures”

As Congress passed a budget that could include severe cuts to vital conservation programs, The Nature Conservancy has announced its “Top Ten California Treasures.” These treasures are California’s most iconic parks and recreation areas that were funded by a federal program called the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), which is currently proposed to be cut by 90 percent in the House of Representatives’ budget.
“Californians have really benefited from the Land and Water Conservation Fund,” said Mike Sweeney, Executive Director of the Nature Conservancy’s California Chapter. “Many of our prized natural areas around the state, the places we think of as quintessentially Californian, exist because of this program. Although we are all facing tough budget decisions, this program is funded by oil and gas revenue and costs the taxpayers nothing.”

Solar Grid: The Future of Renewable Energy

Julia Hamm, President and CEO of the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA), today called for utilities and solar companies to work more closely together as both look for opportunities to modernize the electric grid through the utilization of renewable and “smart grid” technologies. Her remarks came during a panel as part of the annual GridWeek conference in Washington.
The term “smart grid” often encompasses a suite of technologies that give utilities access to more real-time data about customer energy usage, while giving customers more direct control over the timing and amount of power they take from the grid. These technologies would also make it easier for utilities to integrate more renewable energy into their energy portfolios, a move requested by many customers and required by state renewable energy standards.

Japan’s Energy Needs Solar for Future Resilience

Despite obvious differences in the size and style of the utility-scale solar market in the two countries, there are clear parallels in how policy has shaped solar markets in both the United States and Japan. That is the main finding of a report released today by the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA), entitled “Policy Changes Trigger Resurgence of Japan’s Solar Market.” SEPA organized a fact finding mission of utility leaders to Japan earlier this year as part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to helping utilities make smart solar decisions.

Arkansas Energy Efficiency Investments Would Create Thousands of Local Jobs and Save Customers Billions

State Already On Track to Becoming the Most Energy Efficient in Southeast
Investments in energy efficiency across all four of Arkansas’ economic sectors —- residential, commercial, industrial, and transportation —- would create over 11,000 jobs, generate $240 million in revenue for the state, and save consumers $3.2 billion in energy bills by 2025, according to a report released today by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). The report, Advancing Energy Efficiency in Arkansas: Opportunities for a Clean Energy Economy, examines the potential for greater energy efficiency in Arkansas and suggests a variety of policies to tap into this underused resource.

Analysis of 2005 Energy Policy Act Shows Markets Transformed and Doors Opened to Further Legislation- HOW ABOUT TRYING IT AGAIN DURING THIS YEAR’S BUDGET BATTLES!!!!
Energy efficiency provisions in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 were largely successful in expanding markets for money-saving energy-efficient products, and in creating opportunities for continued bipartisan political action on energy efficiency in later legislation. These are the results of a new report, Assessing the Harvest: Implementation of the Energy Efficiency Provisions in the Energy Policy Act of 2005, by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). The report documents current knowledge about the implementation of the energy efficiency provisions in this legislatiion.
