Northeast States Energy Efficiency Initiatives in the Region

Leaders across the region agree to common reporting guidelines for efficiency savings.
Energy utility commissioners and energy efficiency leaders in the Northeast and Mid- Atlantic regions have agreed to implement a common set of statewide guidelines for reporting energy efficiency savings and associated costs, emissions and job impacts. This agreement by the Regional Evaluation, Measurement, & Verification Forum’s (EM&V Forum) Steering Committee marks a significant milestone in laying the groundwork for building greater transparency and credibility of energy efficiency as a reliable, plentiful energy resource in the region and further drives the energy efficiency agenda nationally.

EDTA Support for Electric Vehicle Innovation

The Obama Administration outlined policies to establish a more secure energy future by reducing U.S. oil imports by one-third over the next ten years. The President identified electric drive vehicles as critical to this effort, along with policies to increase domestic oil supplies and boost efficiency and alternative fuel use. The President also called for federal agencies’ fleet purchases to be 100 percent alternative fuel powered vehicles by 2015.

Jersey City Chromium Cleanup: A Long Awaited Change

After 30 Years, Local Community Triumphs in Cancer-Causing Chemical Battle

PPG Industries has agreed to clean-up of one of the largest remaining sites contaminated with cancer-causing hexavalent chromium in New Jersey. The cleanup is estimated to cost PPG up to $600 million and remove an estimated 700,000 tons of chromium waste from a Jersey City neighborhood. The settlement stems from a 2009 citizen’s lawsuit filed in federal court by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Interfaith Community Organization (ICO), and GRACO Community Organization (GRACO) on behalf of Jersey City residents who have been fighting for a comprehensive clean-up since the early 1980s.
