Wind Turbines Begin Providing Renewable Energy at Honda Transmission Plant in Ohio
Honda Ohio Plant Now Powered by Wind Energy
Honda has officially flipped the switch on two new wind turbines at its transmission plant in Russells Point, Ohio. This marks a milestone for the company’s clean energy goals and strengthens its commitment to U.S.-based sustainability.
Two Turbines, Major Impact
The turbines, each standing 260 feet tall, are expected to supply nearly 10% of the plant’s electricity needs. That’s enough energy to power approximately 400 average homes annually.
Installed by Juhl Energy and developed in partnership with Honda Transmission Manufacturing of America, the project supports the automaker’s broader strategy to cut carbon emissions and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Local Generation, Global Mission
By producing power on-site, Honda reduces its carbon footprint while easing strain on Ohio’s electric grid. The turbines will lower the facility’s electricity demand during peak hours and align with Honda’s global goal to cut CO₂ emissions from all its products and operations.
“This wind project is another example of how we’re looking at every opportunity to improve our environmental performance,” said Honda spokesperson Ron Lietzke.
A Growing U.S. Clean Energy Trend
Honda joins a growing list of manufacturers embracing renewable energy at the facility level. On-site generation not only cuts emissions—it helps manage energy costs and boosts resilience.
Moreover, the Russells Point turbines serve as a regional model for how private industry can integrate clean power in Midwestern communities.
State and Industry Support
Local and state leaders have supported the project for its environmental and economic benefits. Construction employed dozens of workers and emphasized the importance of investing in renewable infrastructure.
Juhl Energy will continue to manage the turbines, ensuring long-term performance and community engagement.
Bigger Picture: Honda’s U.S. Footprint
Honda operates several manufacturing facilities in North America, and this Ohio wind project is part of its effort to green those operations. The company has long used solar, hydropower, and energy efficiency upgrades to reduce its environmental impact.
With this latest step, Honda demonstrates that large-scale industry and clean energy can work hand-in-hand.
