USGBC Unveils LEED Global Green Building Data Platform
Transparency Takes Root in Sustainable Construction
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has launched a groundbreaking online resource. It offers real-time data on LEED projects worldwide. This move marks a significant step towards global green building transparency.
Interactive Insights at Your Fingertips
Users can now access aggregated LEED project information from over 150 countries. In addition, the platform provides detailed breakdowns by owner sector, rating system, and space type. Moreover, it also includes data on in-market LEED professionals and USGBC members.
Building on Domestic Success
This global initiative more closely follows the successful release of U.S. state market briefs in April. Consequently, the USGBC is expanding its commitment to data accessibility. The new platform also offers a comprehensive view of international green building trends.
LEED’s Global Growth Surge
International adoption of LEED has skyrocketed in recent years. For instance, LEED-certified commercial space outside the U.S. grew from 156 million to 176 million square feet. That’s most notably between 2012 and 2013. Currently, over 648 million square feet of non-U.S. commercial space boasts LEED certification.
Complementing Existing Resources
The country market briefs align with USGBC’s other global initiatives. These include country-specific “LEED in Motion” reports for Greater China, Sweden, and also Canada. Additionally, the LEED Earth program offers free certification. Especially to pioneering projects in new countries.
Visualizing a Sustainable Future
Mahesh Ramanujam, USGBC’s chief operating officer, emphasizes the platform’s significance. He states, “Visualizing the global LEED marketplace allows us not only to see the present, but gives us a window through which we can imagine a more sustainable future for our planet.”
