SYRACUSE, NY – APRIL 15, 2015 – In the ongoing effort to reduce their ecological footprints, professional, collegiate and municipal sports venues that have installed LED lighting from Ephesus Lighting, have saved an estimated 45 million kilowatts of energy — enough to light nearly 5,000 homes for one year. The company also estimates that their LED lighting fixtures have eliminated 34,000 tons of C02 from being emitted into the atmosphere.
The acceptance of LED lighting by sports and entertainment venue operators is due in part to the worldwide attention it received when Ephesus LED’s illuminated the Super Bowl this year. This rapid adoption of LED has lead Ephesus engineers to estimate that by Earth Day 2016, the company will have saved sports and entertainment facilities more than 200 million kilowatts of energy and 150,000 tons of CO2 emissions from being released into the atmosphere.
In addition, since Ephesus LED fixtures last over 10 years with no maintenance, an estimated 250,000 replacement legacy lighting fixtures containing mercury and other hazardous materials will not be disposed of in landfills. Ephesus’ fixtures are made of non-hazardous materials which can either be recycled or disposed of safely.
“Energy savings was the initial attraction when we first proved LED was ready for the high-output demands of sports and entertainment venues,” said Mike Lorenz, President of Ephesus Lighting. “But when people saw that our LED solutions offer better quality light, eliminate maintenance costs and offer controllability and versatility, it has become the obvious choice for both new construction and retrofit projects.”
