Lowe’s commits to phase out phthalates in flooring!
Lowe’s Home Flooring is set to undergo significant improvements. That’s especially as Lowe’s has agreed to eliminate toxic phthalates in their flooring. Most notably, by the end of this year!
Lowe’s Home Flooring
This is huge as Lowe’s is the second largest home improvement retailer in the country, which not only solidifies its position in the market but also indicates the significant influence it has on consumers and competitors alike. With a vast network of stores and a diverse range of products, Lowe’s plays a crucial role in shaping the trends and standards of home improvement, making it a go-to destination for homeowners, contractors, and DIY enthusiasts across the nation.
This shows the power we have as consumers to get big retailers to eliminate toxic chemicals in products.
Lowe’s Home Flooring Yes : Home Depot Lead
Lowe’s commitment comes less than one week after we announced another big victory for our campaign. Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement retailer, took the lead by eliminating added phthalates by the end of 2015. That victory was featured in a big NY Times story. Our campaign has now successfully leveraged Home Depot’s policy by convincing Lowe’s to join them.
This follows a HealthyStuff.org report we just co-released that found nearly half (48%) of flooring samples tested at Lowe’s contained toxic phthalates.
Welcome Home to Clean Health
We welcome and congratulate both Home Depot and Lowe’s for doing what’s right for our families and homes. Moreover, their commitment to providing quality products and services not only strengthens our communities but also supports the values of family and home improvement. Furthermore, by prioritizing customer satisfaction and participating in initiatives that benefit families, they set a commendable example in the retail industry. Consequently, this progressive approach ensures that our homes remain beautiful, functional, and safe. It reflects the dedication both companies have towards enhancing our living environments.
A big question remains though– what about the other leading retailers of flooring? To date, Lumber Liquidators, Ace Hardware, Menards, and Build.com have no timeframes to eliminate phthalates in flooring. Testing has shown toxic phthalates in flooring they sell.
Who’s Next?
Who will be the next retailer to join this growing trend? As the retail landscape continues to evolve, more brands are recognizing the importance of adapting to consumer preferences and sustainability initiatives. Stay tuned, as we’ll be launching a new campaign in the next week targeting at least one of these laggards. Our aim is to spark a conversation that not only highlights the urgency of timely adaptation but also encourages other retailers to follow suit and embrace innovative practices that resonate with today’s conscientious shoppers.
