First look shows striking futuristic new design!
LONDON, UK (January 30, 2018) – Formula E and the FIA have released the first digital images. That’s of the next generation car. Most importantly for season five. Thereby showcasing the futuristic new-look of the electric street racing series. All with the covers coming off the physical model at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6.
Making its competitive debut for the 2018/19 ABB FIA Formula E Championship, the fully-electric Gen2 car will be used for the next three seasons. The car visibly represents a new era. Especially for Formula E and also further distinguishes the series. I mean from other categories in motorsport.
First Car Commissioned for FIA
Most noteworthy, this is the first car ever to be created by the governing body for motorsport.
So, FIA is bringing together the world’s leading designers and engineers to work on the concept.
Most importantly, the common package of specification parts will be homologated and built by the competing manufacturers. That’s to house their own bespoke powertrain.
Gen 2 Car
The new car demonstrates a step-up in performance from the current iteration. For that’s with almost double the energy storage capacity and also more excitingly double the range. For that’s meaning the teams and drivers will also complete a full race distance at higher speeds. Most noteworthy and without making a mid-race car swap. The Gen2 car is more noteworthy and clear proof of the advancements. Especially in battery and electric motor technology.
I mean looks what’s been achieved in only four years.
In addition, the physical model of the Gen2 car together with full technical specifications. For they will be revealed on the FIA stand. Most importantly at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6.

These are clearly very exciting times for Formula E. For they are showing for the first time the design of the next generation car. So I’m sure that everyone will be very excited. Especially by how futuristic and advanced it is. It’s clearly awesome that the FIA has been at the forefront of this car’s development. For it’s something new for the Federation. I mean the project has also been a huge success. They truly can’t wait to take the covers off the real car when it will be seen for the first time in Geneva on March 6.
