Porsche Panamera Plug-in Hybrid Electric 2018 : Test Drive Results

Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid: Test Drive Results and Review

The Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is proof that performance and efficiency can live together in a single, beautifully engineered package. On my test drive, this plug-in hybrid delivered an estimated 75 MPGe, demonstrating that you don’t have to sacrifice fuel savings to enjoy thrilling power.

From the start, the Panamera Turbo 4S E-Hybrid felt every bit like a true Porsche. The acceleration was immediate and satisfying. The moment you pressed the pedal, the electric motor and twin-turbo V8 combined forces to deliver a surge of power that pushed you firmly back in the seat. It’s a rare experience for any plug-in hybrid, let alone a four-door luxury sedan.

While many plug-in hybrids prioritize efficiency at the expense of fun, Porsche refused to compromise. The Turbo S E-Hybrid combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a 136-horsepower electric motor, producing a staggering total of 680 horsepower and 626 lb-ft of torque. That translates to a 0–60 mph time of around 3.2 seconds—outrageously quick for a car with serious green credentials.

Plug-In Hybrid Efficiency

Despite all that power, the car’s plug-in hybrid system gives drivers the flexibility to choose how they use energy. During my test, I managed roughly 75 MPGe under mixed driving conditions. This included using electric-only mode for local trips and relying on the combined gas-electric system for highway speeds and aggressive driving.

For short daily commutes, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid can operate in all-electric mode for an estimated 14–20 miles, depending on driving style and conditions. That means many owners could handle their city driving without burning any gasoline at all, plugging in overnight to recharge the 14.1 kWh battery using a standard Level 2 charger.

Moreover, the e-Hybrid system is smart and seamless. You can select different drive modes to prioritize efficiency, performance, or electric driving. The transition between electric and gasoline power is virtually unnoticeable, with Porsche’s engineers ensuring that the experience remains refined, quiet, and smooth—unless you want the roar of the V8.

Driving Dynamics and Luxury

Handling is classic Porsche. The car feels remarkably agile for its size, with rear-axle steering, adaptive air suspension, and active anti-roll systems working in concert to deliver precise, confident cornering. Even in tight turns, it feels planted and responsive.

Meanwhile, the cabin is a masterclass in luxury. The Panamera Turbo Electric is a 4S E-Hybrid. It’s interior blends technology, comfort, and premium materials seamlessly. From the 12.3-inch touchscreen to the configurable instrument cluster, everything feels intuitive and modern. Heated and ventilated seats, high-quality leather, and ambient lighting create a space that feels both sporty and sophisticated.

Additionally, the car doesn’t skimp on practicality. With four doors, a spacious back seat, and usable cargo space, it serves as a genuine daily driver. This makes it even more appealing to those who want a supercar experience without giving up comfort or usability.

Panamera Turbo Electric : A True Statement Car

Ultimately, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is more than just a plug-in hybrid. It’s a PHEV statement. It proves that you don’t have to choose between exhilarating performance and environmental responsibility. With around 75 MPGe possible under the right conditions, you can enjoy electric efficiency while still harnessing 680 horsepower at will.

For drivers who want it all—speed, luxury, technology, and sustainability—this Porsche delivers in every way. It’s a real testament to how far plug-in hybrid technology has come, and it sets a new standard for the segment.
