Electric Cars and Making Moves

Electric cars are just beginning to hit U.S. highways. However, if the most recent Nielsen Energy Survey is any indication, they should receive a huge welcome. An overwhelming 85% of American consumers say they would be interested in purchasing a plug-in electric vehicle. I mean either right away (3%). Then when their current car needs replacement (57%). Finally or when the technology is proven and becomes mainstream (25%).

MXenergy CEO Jeffrey Mayer won’t be waiting. He was among the first in line for a “Victory Red” Chevy Volt. His choice shows his commitment to sustainability and innovation in the energy world.

As a leader, Mayer sees the power of green technology. He knows electric vehicles are key to shrinking carbon footprints. The Volt isn’t just a car to him. It’s a step toward the future.

The auto industry is shifting fast. Eco-friendly options are no longer niche. Mayer’s enthusiasm matches that momentum. His move goes beyond personal preference. It reflects a larger trend that values responsibility and efficiency.

For MXenergy, the purchase strengthens its image. It also sets an example. Other energy leaders now have a reason to follow. Choosing EVs can influence both operations and perception. Mayer proves that leadership means action.

“The Volt and other plug-in vehicles are getting ready to hit showroom floors represent a huge step forward for the sustainability movement,” says Mayer. The large-scale production of electric cars is something many people feared might remain just a dream. I for one can’t wait to be a part of that dream becoming a reality.”

People prefer a plug-in hybrid

While U.S. drivers seem ready to embrace the electric car, they also have a strong preference as to the type of vehicle they prefer. 58% of customers prefer plug-in hybrid electric versions (PHEV) such as the Chevy Volt today. I mean to electric-only models such as the Nissan Leaf. PHEV’s have a much greater range than their electric-only counterparts. According to E Source, younger drivers are more willing to go to the electric-only routes with their vehicle choice.

Regardless of which version people prefer, Mayer says the greening of America’s highways is exciting to see.

People realize that, consequently, we have to dramatically reduce our dependence on foreign oil and, therefore, do all we can to lessen our environmental impact as well. This growing awareness has, in fact, led to a heightened demand for innovative solutions that, in turn, embrace sustainability and promote cleaner energy sources.

The introduction of electric vehicles into the marketplace is, undoubtedly, a transformational moment for the automotive industry and the sustainability movement, signifying a monumental shift in consumer preferences toward more environmentally friendly transportation options.

As governments and organizations push for stricter emissions regulations and, furthermore, incentivize green technology, electric vehicles emerge as a viable alternative that not only reduces our carbon footprint but, additionally, paves the way for a more sustainable future in personal and public transportation. This evolution in the automotive sector is not just about adapting to market trends; rather, it is about, fundamentally, taking responsibility for the planet and actively engaging in efforts to combat climate change.”

Celebrating its twelfth anniversary this month, MXenergy has long been on the forefront of the sustainability movement. Created by Mayer in 1999, the company has continually strived to empower and educate customers to live more sustainable lives through carbon neutrality, the purchase of carbon offsets, renewable energy products and educational programming, in the form of MXenergyTV, an On-Demand cable channel airing in the northeast United States.

So the test for 2014 was done during this past winter, and the story focused on that aspect of the Volt technology, highlighting how its innovative design performed in cold weather conditions and its efficiency levels during this season. The testing included various scenarios, such as steep inclines and long commutes, to gauge battery performance and overall reliability. Here is a segment:

Part of Test Drive Winter Results

Even though this particular test was performed in the coldest part of the winter, the 2014 Chevrolet Volt stood out as an impressive performer in terms of fuel efficiency. With an average mpg of 97, it showcased its engineering prowess by demonstrating remarkable energy management even in challenging conditions. The worst mpg recorded during the test was 75 mpg, which, while lower than ideal, still emphasizes the vehicle’s overall efficiency. On the other hand, the best performance registered was an astonishing 999 miles per gallon, a figure that reflects the Volt’s advanced hybrid technology and its ability to optimize fuel usage under various driving scenarios. This tremendous capability demonstrates not only the car’s adaptability to extreme weather but also highlights its appeal as a practical choice for environmentally conscious drivers looking for reliability and efficiency, especially during harsh winter conditions.

EV1 History and Technology in the Volt

In 1996, GM produced and leased the EV-1, a revolutionary vehicle that was considered the Corvette of electric cars in the 90’s due to its innovative design and advanced technology. The EV-1 showcased what electric vehicles could achieve, capturing the imagination of eco-conscious consumers and automotive enthusiasts alike. However, by 2003, the manufacturers, citing economic concerns and lack of consumer demand, determined that the electric car was not commercially viable. This led to a controversial decision where they abruptly ended the leases, leaving many drivers disheartened. Instead of selling the formerly leased vehicles to the public, which could have potentially paved the way for a new era of sustainable transportation, the manufacturers decided to crush the cars, a move that ignited outrage among environmental activists and electric vehicle supporters, who believed the potential of such technology was being squandered.

GM Puts the Brakes on $370 Million Chevy Volt Engine Factory

I am sorry, did we really think that GM would not put the brakes on this situation? It’s rather perplexing to contemplate how some might have arrived at that conclusion. When did people get that idea? Perhaps it stemmed from a moment of wishful thinking, where faith in unprecedented company decisions took precedence over historical trends? The automotive industry is renowned for its cautious approach when faced with potential risks, and it’s essential to remember that companies like GM have faced numerous critical decisions in the past, always opting for a strategy that ensures their longevity and stability.

Will We See All Electric GM Vehicles Ever?

Did GM do something new to be innovative (excluding the Volt or the EV1)? In recent years, General Motors has taken significant steps beyond just the Volt and the EV1, venturing into the realm of all-electric vehicles with ambitious plans that aim to revolutionize the automotive industry. This includes the introduction of their Ultium battery platform, which is designed to offer flexibility and efficiency for a range of electric models. Additionally, GM has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 and plans to invest heavily in the development of sustainable technologies, thereby reinforcing its status as a leader in the transition to electric mobility. The launch of the Hummer EV marks a bold statement in revitalizing a classic nameplate while embracing cutting-edge technology, showcasing GM’s innovative spirit as it pivots towards a future defined by zero emissions.

PHEV now

Oh, well—let’s just build our own PHEVs, right?!! In today’s world, EVs are exploding in popularity. Building our own plug-in hybrids feels like the next big step.

With new tech and eco-friendly materials, we can shape cars that cut emissions and fit our needs. We’d control everything. Performance. Interior design. Comfort. Each detail could reflect our values and lifestyle.

The idea isn’t just fun. It’s powerful. It supports cleaner communities. It proves that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand.

With rising demand for alternative fuel, the opportunity is real. So, why not dive in?

Back in 2011, for Chevrolet dealers in the Pacific Northwest and Mid-Atlantic states green living arrived.  The arrival of the plug in hybrid electric vehicle, Chevrolet Volt with extended range means new faces coming through the doors of their stores.

The green living news here is that according to initial buyer surveys conducted by General Motors.  So more than half of the Volt owners had not been in a Chevrolet dealership in the past 10 years.  Finally and nearly one-third of Volt buyers never have been to a Chevrolet dealership.

Wrapping Up on the Chevy Volt Today

The impact of the Volt can indeed be seen in various facets of Chevrolet’s business, notably highlighting the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. For instance, customers searching for fuel-efficient transportation often begin their exploration with the Volt, drawn by its reputation for eco-friendly performance and advanced technology. Additionally, as they navigate through their options, many end up cross-shopping the Chevrolet Cruze, a compact sedan that complements the Volt’s attributes with its own efficiency and style. This tendency not only reinforces Chevrolet’s market presence in the realm of fuel-efficient vehicles, but it also showcases how the Volt positively influences consumer perceptions and decisions. In fact, in an increasingly competitive automotive landscape, the Volt serves as a gateway for customers to consider the broader range of Chevrolet offerings, which are specifically designed to meet diverse needs while prioritizing environmental responsibility.

According to web traffic data on both Chevy.com and Edmumds.com, the Cruze is the No. 1 cross-shopped Chevrolet vehicle with the Volt. Since April, nearly 200,000 visitors searching for information on the Chevrolet Volt also searched for information on the Cruze.

“As far as image goes, the Volt is huge. It helps sell the Cruze,” said Inder Dosanjh, a Chevrolet dealer in Dublin, Calif. He explained that the Volt’s innovative technology and eco-friendly appeal boost Chevrolet’s brand. That visibility drives more people to consider the Cruze as a reliable compact sedan. The synergy shows Chevrolet’s push for sustainability while fueling sales across the lineup.
