It is no secret that the plant power is the new grid in New York. For it has been under tremendous stress as a whole grid in recent years. For that’s  due to a variety of causes. I mean including extreme weather events and population growth. To help alleviate the strain on the power grid, Tesla and ConEdison teamed up to create a virtual power plants (VPP) agreement with the help of Tesla Powerwalls. Thereby creating a microgrid family of energy plants.  This virtual power plants (VPP) agreement has allowed thousands of home solar and energy storage systems. All to reduce the overall demand for peak plants. Those which are typically powered by natural gas.

For this is an important development. Especially as natural gas-powered peak plants are known to have a significant environmental impact due to their reliance on a finite resource. Additionally, natural gas-powered peak power plants must be turned on and off in order to meet the peak demand for electricity. Therefore, this constant switching on and off can produce large amounts of air pollution. Moreover it can also result in cold-start problems in populated areas. For example and like Manhattan and the boroughs.

Furthermore, Sunrun has also been vocal in their support of virtual power plants.
