ChargePoint Santa Cruz has more Electric Vehicle Charge spots

ChargePoint Network Expands to Santa Cruz to charge electric vehicles in more places  throughout the Monterey Bay area

Let’s charge our all electric vehicle using ChargePoint! For electric vehicles and their re-charge stations are gaining momentum. That’s all across California. For now, drivers in Santa Cruz County can join the revolution. Coulomb Technologies announced today that it has expanded its ChargePoint Network to Santa Cruz, establishing critical charging infrastructure along California’s central coast. This expansion represents another crucial step toward building the comprehensive charging network needed to support the emerging electric vehicle market.

Connecting the Central Coast with EV Infrastructure

The new ChargePoint stations strategically connect Monterey Bay communities. Thereby it’s most definitely creating a corridor that allows EV drivers to travel confidently throughout the region. Moreover, these stations form a vital link in California’s developing charging network, which ultimately aims to enable electric travel along the entire coastline.

“Electric vehicles can only succeed if drivers have convenient places to charge,” explains Richard Lowenthal, founder and CTO of Coulomb Technologies. “By expanding our ChargePoint Network to Santa Cruz, we’re removing another barrier to EV adoption and helping to create a seamless charging experience for drivers.”

The new stations feature Coulomb’s CT2000 Level II ChargePoint charging stations, which deliver 240 volts and can fully charge most electric vehicles in four to six hours. Furthermore, the networked stations allow drivers to check station availability and receive charging status notifications through the ChargePoint mobile app.

Public-Private Partnerships Drive Infrastructure Development

This expansion wasn’t accomplished by Coulomb Technologies alone. Rather, it represents the successful collaboration between government agencies, local businesses, and technology providers to build essential infrastructure.

“The partnership between the City of Santa Cruz, local businesses, and Coulomb Technologies demonstrates how public-private cooperation can accelerate the transition to cleaner transportation,” says Mary Lou Zoback, Vice Chair of the Northern California Regional Advisory Council for the U.S. Green Building Council. “Additionally, these stations will help reduce range anxiety for drivers considering electric vehicles.”

The new stations have been installed at key locations throughout Santa Cruz County, including downtown parking areas, shopping centers, and near major highways. Consequently, EV drivers can now charge their vehicles while shopping, dining, or working, making electric mobility a practical option for more residents and visitors.

Building the Foundation for California’s Electric Future

The expansion of the ChargePoint Network to Santa Cruz comes at a critical time for electric vehicles. With the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt now available to consumers, and with the Tesla Model S scheduled for delivery next year, charging infrastructure must keep pace with vehicle deployment.

“We’re at the beginning of a transportation revolution,” says Richard Lowenthal. “The charging stations we’re installing today will serve the first generation of mainstream electric vehicles, but they’re also laying the groundwork for much broader adoption in the years ahead.”

The ChargePoint Network now includes nearly 4,000 charging stations globally, with significant concentrations in California. Additionally, the company continues to expand through its ChargePoint America program, which will install more than 4,600 charging stations in nine regions across the United States by the end of 2011.

For Santa Cruz residents, the arrival of the ChargePoint Network signifies both practical benefits and symbolic progress. EV drivers gain valuable charging options, while the community takes another step toward a cleaner transportation future. Most importantly, as these networks expand and connect, they’re helping to make electric vehicles a viable option for an increasing number of drivers.
