Implications for Public Program Design

How can networks help green technology entrepreneurs innovate. What about scale up and in developing countries? Also, how can we design public sector programs so that entrepreneurs can more easily make these connections?

World Bank Climate Technology Program 

The World Bank Group’s Climate Technology Program reviewed recent literature and 14 case studies of public programs. Green entrepreneur innovation programs aimed to support green technology entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneur Innovation Program

They placed the entrepreneur at the center of the innovation process.They sought to cement peer-to-peer connections at the local level. That means by establishing networks of entrepreneur innovation programs. For they helped entrepreneurs connect to supranational networks. Moreover technology brokering platforms which are essentially at the global level.

Traditional Invention Based Program

Under the traditional invention-based approach to innovation. For these enterprises invest heavily in research and development (R&D). Especially to become the first to develop and also commercialize new ideas. However, this approach is particularly challenging in developing countries. Most likely given the high costs and also the weak intellectual property protection.

Green Innovation Strategy

An innovation strategy based on technology absorption. In addition, the adaptation of existing business models may offer a less capital- and time-intensive pathway. Most likely to assist green firms grow where we need them: in developing countries.

This “open innovation” model is driven by social networks of entrepreneurs. More interestingly, it’s at both local and global levels. The model also builds connections with stakeholders in the innovation process. For example, firms, financiers, and potential clients. Most notably with the goal of developing products or services that are directly attuned to market demand.
