Let’s talk light cost. Yes!!! I had totally forgotten to write a wrapup post on the Huffington Post but it’s here!!
I was able to get a story onto the Huffington Post Green section about green lighting. It was very exciting and I did the Facebook and twitter but NEVER a post! Duh!!
Huffington Post Story on Light Cost
Let us change every street lamp in America to LED. As James Cameron and I agreed; if we just do green lighting in this country we can easily save this country. From taxes, jobs, energy efficiency which reduces power plant emissions, national security. Everything!
As I recently wrote up in the Huffington Post article (an excerpt on green lighting) I realized numbers say more. More than I can with regard to retrofits, jobs and energy prices:
LAX LED Light Cost and Savings
In California, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) officials switched to LED. That’s for functional and outdoor lighting. All reducing annual lighting costs by $55,000 and lifetime maintenance costs by $980,000.
In addition and in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Sentry Equipment Corporation chose to light its new factory almost entirely with LEDs. That’s both interior and exterior. The initial cost was three times more than incandescent and fluorescent bulbs. However, this price premium is expected to be repaid within two years. All from electricity savings. The bulbs are expected to last for 20 years.
Here is an excerpt:
When you author a book like Green Lighting you get a certain perspective on life. That is what I need to share. You see America our lighting in this country is so outdated that it is costing us as taxpayers, corporations and individuals too much money. There should be no reason that a disgusting looking yellow outdoor light should be connected to the wall when it consumes over 200 watts of power, looks like well crap and costs so much money in this country.
This light cost affects governments Nationwide.
Yes, we are talking State, County, Municipal and Federal; never to mention school districts and Higher Education Institutions quietly driving up the cost of those services. Yet nobody seems to talk about the Red Herring in the room. So let’s go there for a minute.
Finally, here’s the story on The Huffington Post.
