The Green Living Guy

lightbulb save energy start

So let’s talk about energy we all need to save to start. At this point, it’s very safe to say that the entire world is gradually slipping into a full-scale energy and start saving at home for a shortage. All where the global expenditure will far outweigh the limited supply we’re moving toward. But, even if we put this crisis and surging energy home prices aside. I mean the fact remains all these developments could not affect our lives to such an extent if we lived in a more sustainable society that puts more effort into energy preservation.

Well, any change starts at an individual level, and even if you can’t change the current state of the global economy, you can do your best to make sure your household wastes less energy.

Let’s see how.

Take care of the temperature

Space heating and space cooling are some of the largest energy home expenses start saving you aka the regular household. I mean so you can endure. Well, with that in mind, it is good to know that, according to EPA estimations, installing quality insulation can reduce your monthly energy expenditure by whole 15%. In real life, these numbers can climb all the way up to 20%, so make this one of your biggest priorities. Also, be sure to always drop a couple of degrees on cooling/heating. You won’t notice any difference, but your bills most definitely will. Because it’s about the energy we save to start.  It all adds up.

Ditch the old appliances

Sure, replacing your old appliances with newer, more energy-efficient models may be a considerable investment, especially if you are going to take everything in one run. But, the long-term savings you will be able to make will more than make up for the price of upfront investment if you are only ready to wait for them to stack up. Also, we would like to point out that some countries like Australia are offering rebates for households that upgrade their appliances, so this doesn’t have to be such a big investment after all.

Perform the regular maintenance

We can’t stress enough just how important it is to keep the electric system of your house in order. All the issues you may have with fuses, wiring, outlets, and other electrical components can cause wastes that will cost you a small fortune. So, be sure you keep your house regularly inspected and well-maintained.  If you are, like in the previous example, living in some developed country like Australia, finding a reliable emergency electrician in Mosman or any other city shouldn’t be hard so start looking for the right man.

Manage the light expenses

For a start, be sure to replace the old incandescent bulbs with the latest-gen LED alternatives. According to some estimates, the energy savings you will be able to produce will go all the way up to 75%. All these new alternatives also tend to last 8 to 15 times longer, so there’s another incentive to make the switch. Besides this basic measure, layering the lighting (you’ll get a moody atmosphere as a bonus) and using automated motion-triggered light switches can go a long way in helping your efforts.

Reduce energy used for home water heating

This can be pulled off in a couple of different ways. First, you can try to install low-flow shower heads that will keep the water you use each time you bathe firmly under control. Second, you can simply start taking shorter or cold showers. They will save a lot of energy and, in the latter case, produce very interesting health benefits along the way. And even if you can’t live without long hot baths, you can install water-heating shower heads that will use energy only while you are actually taking shower.

Start using smart power strips

Last but not least, we would like to point out that low-quality power strips we buy to save money are a true menace that not only does a very poor job in keeping energy-hungry appliances in check but also produces considerable phantom wastes in itself. Fortunately, this problem can be easily solved by spending only a couple of dollars more and getting smart power strips that usually feature timers, programming options, sleep mode, remote controls, and other features designed to prevent such waste from occurring.

We hope these few tips gave you a general idea about the strategies you can use to save electricity in your household or even inspired you to come up with a couple of ideas of your own. The most essential thing to take out of this short article, however, is that the energy needs to be preserved, and the sooner you start doing that, the better. All these small changes and efforts can give birth to something truly wonderful.
