So Earth Day (April 22nd) is not just about vegan and cruelty free. For it was first about pollution as it was celebrated back in 1970. Now, in 2020, the Earth Day Network collaborates with organizations in 174 countries every year to celebrate this thankful tradition. There’s no better time than now to appreciate the Earth. It’s easier than you think to show the world some love not only today but every day. Here are some ways to give our planet the tender loving care it deserves.
1. Reduce and recycle your clutter:
As Marie Kondo would say, “Does it spark joy?” Spring cleaning is finally here, so why not utilize this time to organize those messy living room corners or that pile of papers on your desk? Decide what you’d like to keep and discard, be sure to recycle all plastic and paper materials so they can be disposed of properly. Donate old clothes to Goodwill or Salvation Army instead of throwing them in the trash.
So if you think recycling doesn’t matter, think again. In 2018, the Environmental Protection Agency reported that the recycling rate increased from less than 7% in 1960 to 35%. For every 10,000 recycled materials, nearly 16 jobs and $760,000 in wages are supported.
2. Incorporate vegan and cruelty-free products into your daily life:
We all have different ways of how we get ready in the morning, whether it be applying gel to our hair, using toothpaste. I mean or even just washing with body wash and shampoo in the shower. What we don’t think about are the ingredients in some of these mysterious everyday items. In recent years, brands have made a conscious effort to reduce the amount of unknown chemicals in their products. The hair color company, Vertone has mastered the art of healthy hair color that is vegan and cruelty free. From daily hair conditioners to deep healing treatments, all their products are vegan and cruelty-free. Not only are they healthy for you, but good for the environment too.
3. Plant a garden:
If you have the space to grow a garden, mother earth will thank you. Seeing something come to fruition by the work of your own hands is a great accomplishment. By tending to and growing your own vegetables, you’ll actually save money by having fresh food right in your yard whenever you want/need it. Planting flowers or vegetables will enrich the earth’s soul, making it fertile and healthy. Creating an eco-friendly garden outside of your home is easier than you think, as long as you take the time, do your research, and care for it. As we know it’s vegan and cruelty-free.
4.Invest in reusable items:
Almost every store carries various items under the category of reusable. This covers everything from reusable water bottles, shopping tote bags, kitchen towels, and glass or stainless-steel kitchen/cooking items. Investing in these products will keep your trash low but also benefit the earth as well. Swap out paper plates for ceramic plates, paper towels for dish rags, and use canvas tote bags for grocery shopping instead of throwing away plastic bags after one use.
Incorporate some of these easy tips into your everyday life to decrease waste and improve our planet’s health. Share this advice with others and do your part to save the earth – it’s the only one we have!
