Honda’s Big Energy Play at RE+ 25: Home, EV, and Grid Tech for a Zero-Carbon Future

Honda just dropped something huge at RE+ 25 in Las Vegas this past September. And honestly? It’s way bigger than just another electric car announcement.

The Japanese automaker basically said “Hey, what if your car could power your house?” Then they showed us exactly how they’re making it happen. Moreover, they’re not just talking about backup power during storms. They’re talking about turning every Honda EV into a mini power plant.

Building the Complete Home Energy Ecosystem

Honda isn’t stopping at just the car. They’re creating complete home electrification packages through Honda Home Electrification and Acura Home Electrification platforms.

The lineup includes some seriously smart gear. The Emporia Vue Home Energy Monitor tracks exactly how much power everything in your house uses. Meanwhile, their home battery systems store solar power for later use.

They’re also rolling out heat pump water heaters that automatically run on excess solar power during sunny days. Plus, Honda’s bundling rooftop solar solutions with design, installation, and monitoring support.

The Southern California Edison Partnership

Honda teamed up with Southern California Edison (SCE) to test this whole system in real homes. This isn’t just a cool concept – they’re actually making it work with real families and real electric bills.

The pilot program focuses on using Honda and Acura EVs as backup power during outages. Additionally, it tests how well these “virtual power plants” can support the grid during high-demand periods.

ChargeScape is helping make this happen. It’s a joint venture between Honda, BMW, Ford, and Nissan that focuses on vehicle-grid integration software. Essentially, they’re building the digital backbone that lets EVs talk to the electrical grid.

Honda’s Home Energy Power Cool Tech Beyond the RSX

Honda brought some other impressive gear to RE+ 25. The Fastport eQuad Prototype caught a lot of attention. It’s designed for last-mile delivery with pedal-by-wire assist and swappable batteries. Moreover, it’s launching in late 2025.

The 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV combines hydrogen fuel cells with plug-in charging. This gives drivers flexibility for different types of trips while maintaining zero emissions. Furthermore, it shows Honda’s commitment to multiple clean energy pathways.

They also showed off a Fuel Cell Power Generator for larger facilities. This stationary system can power buildings up to 3 MW. Plus, it’s scheduled for mass production in 2026.
